Community first housing

Community First Housing (CFH) is an intentional community located in the Southeast section of Albuquerque, New Mexico. It’s modeled after Gould Farm, a therapeutic farm community in Western Massachusetts. CFH provides urban community living to persons living with mental illness as well as housing for persons looking for a more intentional community experience.

At CFH, Community Comes First

Our goal is that persons living with mental illness will make up at least half of our CFH community.  All CFH residents participate in weekly meals and activities that foster community growth and involvement and are supported by peer counselors who live on site.  Community gardens are available in the growing season.  Each resident has his or her own one bedroom or efficiency apartment in the 14 unit apartment complex.

Requirements for CFH Residency

  1. Participation in at least 1 community meal per week and 2 community events per month

  1. 20 hours a week of meaningful structure such as work, school, volunteering, PSR, or CFH work program

  1. Compliance with psychiatric treatment when applicable

CFH Vision Statement

To be one of New Mexico’s premier communities for persons living with mental illness. We will be seen in the mental health community as an excellent place for those living with mental illness to experience intentional community, peer support, and recovery skills, all of which helps those with mental illness participate in society fully.
